Today’s Mantra

Hi Friends,

Today is day 11 for me of social isolation (not leaving my house) during this global pandemic, and I wanted to share some things that have helped me to stay calm and grounded with so many changes.

  1. Daily Mantra. This may not be for everyone, but in the same fashion as setting intentions for the day, choosing a daily mantra (or a weekly mantra) has been really helpful for me. It gives me something to center on and bring back my focus when my mind is straying, I am feeling overwhelmed or anxious or frustrated or even lonely. As a bonus, I’ve been writing my mantra with dry erase marker on my bathroom mirror, encouraging myself to read it each time i’m in there.

  2. A list of activities. If you’ve worked with me before, you might remember that lists help me feel organized and grounded. If they aren’t your thing, don’t even worry! Instead of writing out a list, you could gather all your indoor activities in one spot, so when you’re struggling with boredom or feeling anxiety, you can easily pick-out something to distract. Some of my favorites currently include: coloring pages, writing out cards, catching up on my DVR/finding new shows to watch/re-watching old favorites), FaceTiming with friends, cleaning out my cabinets/drawers, taking baths, reading, listening to audio books/podcasts, and journaling.

  3. Meal plan! Am I the only one who is basically always hungry now that I’m roaming my house all day every day? I’ve found by meal and even snack planning, I am instilling a routine for myself that prevents me from eating everything in my cabinet on day 1!

  4. Reduce the Noise. I’ve realized in the last few days that things I used to consider mindless “rest” like scrolling through social media now feel noisy and cause me to get stressed out without even realizing it. I’ve started making my time on social media more effective - looking up accounts or people I want an update on, or focusing on cute photos/videos of animals to be honest.

I’d love to hear what has been helpful for your mental health while practicing social distancing.

AND, if virtual “mom” services or consults would be helpful in regards to trying to conceive, currently being pregnant, or being newly postpartum, please please send me a message - I’d be so grateful to support you <3

Warmly,

Amanda
